Press start — it keeps counting even if you switch tabs, and chimes when time’s up. Tap the ring to pause.

1 Hour Timer — Free 60 Minute Countdown

Need a 1 hour timer? The 60 minute countdown above is free, runs in your browser and keeps accurate time even when the tab is in the background. It chimes when the hour is up. Use −1/+1 to adjust, or go full screen.

What an Hour Is Good For

  • Exam practice — school and university exams usually run between one and three hours. Practising past papers against a visible clock builds the pacing you'll need on the day. Our exam timers are built for exactly that.
  • Deep work — writing, coding and design often need a longer run-up. An hour gives you room to get into flow. Many people prefer 50 minutes of work with a 10-minute break — see our guide to 25/5 vs 50/10.
  • Study sessions — one topic, one hour, then a proper break.
  • Cooking and baking — roasts, bread proving and slow-cooked dishes.
  • Parking and appointments — a simple reminder to move the car or head out.

Keep an Hour From Dragging

An hour is a long time to hold focus without a plan. Decide exactly what "done" looks like before you press start, keep your phone out of reach, and note down distractions on paper instead of acting on them. If the full hour is too much, split it into two blocks with the 25 minute timer and a short break.

A 60 Minute Timer Without a Screen

Most of our visual timers have a 60-minute dial that shows time disappearing as a coloured disc — easy to read at a glance, and silent while it runs.

1 Hour Timer — FAQ

Will the timer keep running if I switch tabs?

Yes. The countdown is based on the clock, not the tab, so it stays accurate in the background and the alarm is scheduled to sound on time. The time left also shows in the browser tab title.

Can I set it to longer than an hour?

Yes — press +1 min before you start to add time, up to three hours.

Is it free?

Completely free, with no sign-up, no app and no ads.
